Police are reminding car owners to secure their vehicles and to remove valuables from display when leaving them unattended.
It follows an increase thefts from and of vehicles in the South Norfolkarea in the past few weeks.
Inspector James Brown who leads the policing teams in Wymondham, Hethersett, Mulbarton, Poringland and Loddon said: “It is important that people remember to remove anything from view from their vehicle that might tempt a passing thief and that cars should always be locked and secure, with they keys removed from the ignition - even if only leaving the vehicle for a few moments.”

Ketamine was seized and a man arrested following a police raid in Long Stratton.
The drugs warrant was carried out on Swan Lane by officers from the Long Stratton and Diss Safer Neighbourhood Teams (SNT) on Friday 30 April.
Officers seized twelve and a half grams of ketamine – a Class C drug - and a man was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply. He was later released on bail pending further enquiries.
Long Stratton SNT Sergeant Andy Terry said: “This is an excellent example of how information reported to us by the public leads to positive arrests by the local officers. We are committed to disrupting drug dealing in this area and I would encourage people to report their suspicions to us. We will continue to work with our local community to make Long Stratton a safe neighbourhood.”

You will all be aware that changes are afoot in respect of Home Watch in
Norfolk. With effect from 31 Mar the posts of Home Watch Administrator
will cease to exist. Additionally, the incumbents of those posts will be
made redundant. In future, therefore, ALL queries concerning Home Watch
will have to be referred to the Communications and Public Affairs Dept at
Police Headquarters, on 0845 456 4567. Any requests for crime reduction
surveys or advice should be directed to Mrs C Cawdron on the same number,
extension 4998. I have not been included in the discussions on the
re-vamp of Home Watch nor have I been privy to any decisions that have
been made so I have no idea how everything will eventually 'pan out'. I do
not know the extent or style of future messaging to co-ordinators. I
would, however, like to thank you all for your hard work and committment
to Home Watch since I took on the role of Administrator in August 2007.
Good luck and best wishes for the future.
17 March 2010
Dear Home Watch Co-ordinator,
A new era of Norfolk Constabulary and Norfolk Home Watch is nearly upon
us. For the past six months Norfolk Home Watch Association has been
actively working with the Constabulary to create a new operational model
designed to put residents first.
Each Safer Neighbourhood team will have a Home Watch Specific Point of
Contact (SPOC) who will have the portfolio for Home Watch where you will
live. The SPOCs are in the process of being identified - your
representative will be made known to you in due course.
In the near future you will receive a message from the Constabulary
inviting you to re-register your details on our new communications tool.
When you receive this message please respond as soon as you can. You will
be able to re-register by filling in a form online or a hard copy -
details to follow!
It's not just a new operational model and communications tool which will
benefit Home Watch in Norfolk. Our Home Watch communications products have
been standardised and include a refreshed start-up pack for both
co-ordinators and members. These will be phased in as new schemes start.
If you have web access, you can read further information about Home Watch

stolen. A yellow-coloured, 'Partner' chain saw, 2 x Stihl strimmers, a
yellow-coloured 'Macfarlane' chain saw, a 46cm 'Macfarlane' hedge trimmer
and a red, 20 litre jerry can were stolen. Please bear this incident in
mind should you come across such equipment being offered for sale. Always

This is a reminder for all of you living in the Long Stratton Safer
Neighbourhood Sector that the next Long Stratton Safer Neighbourhood
Action panel meeting will take place at Forncett Village Hall at 1900 on
Thursday 25 February. Please pass this message on to your members in case
they wish to attend. To remind you, the priorities set at the last
meeting were:
1. Parking concerns on Flordon Road, Newton Flotman
2. Cycle storage provision for 'bus users in Long Stratton
10 February 2010
There have been several burglaries recently throughout the county where
the pattern has been seen to be similar. The offences have been committed
during the daytime and entry has been forced and through the rear of the
properties. The houses have tended to be on the outskirts of villages and
the property stolen mainly laptops, jewellery and cash. Offenders have
also used vehicles to leave the scene. Please ensure that your window and
door locks are in good condition and work properly and also that your
home's overall security is good. Garden tools can readily be used as
implements to assist burglary so please lock them away out of sight.
Also, try not to leave laptops in view or jewellery in obvious places.
Should you see any vehicles in your area that you think are acting
suspiciously, call Norfolk Police immediately.

dates and at the following locations:
Monday 11 Jan outside the Solar Supermarket, Long Stratton.
Monday 8 Feb outside the Long Stratton Library.

15 December 2009
You may recall the high profile burglaries in Hempnall last December when,
over 2 nights, the Post Office and then the Hempnall Stores were entered
and cash, alcohol and cigarettes stolen.
Four offenders were arrested, have subsequently appeared in court and
received custodial sentences of between 3 yrs 6 mths and 4 yrs 8 mths.
19 November 2009
It has recently been reported that about 10 young males were in the area
of Long Stratton, Newton Flotman and Tasburgh, with a lone individual in
Poringland, selling household goods and saying that they work for an
organisation called 'Keep Britain Working'. This is an organisation that
encourages youth employment. There have been a number of recent incidents
across the UK of individuals selling door to door and claiming to be
ex-offenders working for this organisation. The individual in Poringland
was very rude and pushy. Please make your members aware of the incidents
because people such as these, selling from door to door, may not be what
they appear.
11 November 2009
You will all be aware now of the future changes to Home Watch in Norfolk.
In the interim, I am having to revise,in relation to crimes, the method of
researching the information, the final content and its ultimate
promulgation to you, the co-ordinators. Whilst this is on-going I would
ask that you bear with me because there will, inevitably, be a reduction
in the timeliness and frequency of messaging. Information regarding
scams, rogue traders and similar incidents will continue to be
disseminated immediately.
5 November 2009
Yesterday, the 4th Nov, an elderly resident in Long Stratton received a
telephone call purporting to be from the local council telling him that a
revaluation was being undertaken of council tax payments over the
preceding 16 years and that he was due a refund. They attempted to have
him confirm his bank card details but he did not do so. He described the
person who spoke to him as male with a very strong Welsh accent. They
also said that documents would be sent to him through the post. These
might well ask, again, for personal details. This is not the way councils
approach residents. Please pass the message onto you members so they are
aware of this new scam.
29 October2009
Between 0800 on Thursday 22 Oct and 1100 on the 26th an unattended grass
cutter was stolen from a field off The Green, Saxlingham Nethergate.
27 October 2009
I have been tasked to promulgate the following message concerning the
future of Home Watch in Norfolk:
"Norfolk Constabulary's plan to introduce a new Home Watch model was
agreed by Norfolk Home Watch Association at a meeting on Thursday 15 Oct
2009.
The plan will see the transfer of Home Watch from its current home in
Partnerships to Communications and Public Affairs with greater integration
of Norfolk's 52 Neighbourhood Policing Teams.
The purpose of this message is to keep you informed of what happens now.
An implementation group, which includes Norfolk Home Watch Association, is
being set up. There will be a phased introduction of the new model that
will be completed by 31 Mar 2010.
During the transition it is likely you will see a slight reduction in the
number of messages sent to you. The implementation group are aware of
this and will be looking at a possible interim solution.
Please be assured that, as a valued Home Watch Co-ordinator, you will be
kept informed of the implementation group's progress. Norfolk
Constabulary and Norfolk Home Watch Association would like to thank you
for your continued support."
15 October 2009
This is a reminder for all of you in the Long Stratton Safer Neighbourhood
area that the next Long Stratton Safer Neighbourhood Action Panel Meeting
will take place at 1900 on Wednesday 21 Oct at the Preston Primary School,
Henry Preston Road, Tasburgh.
22 September 2009
A number of people, both in Norfolk and Suffolk, have recently received
calls from individuals saying they work for BT and claiming that money is
owed to the company for an unpaid bill. They are told that unless they pay
the sum of money their telephones will be disconnected. Demands are made
for personal details such as dates of birth and credit card numbers. If
the demand is refused and the receiver replaced, the caller will keep his
off the hook thus making it impossible for the householder to dial out
making them believe that their telephone has, indeed, been cut off. A
number of individuals have been fooled and given these details resulting in
unauthorised withdrawls from their accounts. Please pass this message on
to your members and friends, especially any elderly or vulnerable people
you may know in your area.
Please do not give out personal details to anyone over the telephone
because bone fide organisations such as BT do not operate in this fashion.
21 September 2009
DISESTABLISHMENT OF NORFOLK HOME WATCH ADMINISTRATOR POSTS
In a meeting at the Police Headquarters on 16th Sep it was announced to the Norfolk Home Watch Administrators that their posts were to be disestablished and that their role would be assumed by the Communications and Public Affairs Department.
I do not know how long I will remain in post but, whilst I am here, I will maintain the same level of service, support and messaging you receive presently. As soon as I have any more information concerning the future of Home Watch in Norfolk I will let you all know without delay.
Thank you
I recently sent you a 'Face to Face' survey and asked for it to be
completed and returned to our headquarters. The results of this survey
have now been collated and a copy of the results is attached for your
perusal. We would like to thank those of you who took the time to complete
and return the survey. [ click on header to see Survey result]
17 August 2009
Between 2000 on Saturday 15 Aug and 0515 the next day a burglary took
place at an address in Cargate Lane, Saxlingham Nethergate. An
outbuilding at the address was entered and a female foal, thought to be a
Shetland, stolen. Presently bay and cream with a black mane. She was
born on 25 June 2009 and is 10 hands. She is not microshipped.
4 August 2009
The Long Stratton Safer Neighbourhood Team (SNT) will be hosting a series
of street briefings to give local people the chance to meet the local SNT
and talk to them, in confidence, about any neighbourhood concerns. All
suggestions will be taken forward to the next Safer Neighbourhood Action
Panel meeting when decisions will be made on future priorities for the
area.
The first of these briefings will be held outside the One Stop Shop, Long
Stratton on Monday 10 Aug between 1400 and 1500.
30 July 2009
Between 1900 on Saturday 25 Jul and 1200 on the 27th a burglary took place at an address in The Street, Saxlingham Nethergate. Entry was gained to garden sheds by forcing the doors. A Hayter lawn mower and bolt croppers were stolen.
Between 1700 on Sunday 26 Jul and 0700 the next day a quantity of red diesel was stolen from a fuel tank at premises in The Street, Saxlingham Nethergate.
Between 2030 on Sunday 26 Jul and 0800 the next day a burglary took place at an address in Church Hill, Saxlingham Nethergate. An insecure shed was entered and a portable water pump stolen.
Between 1800 on Monday 20 Jul and 1630 on the 27th the garage door locking mechanism was damaged at an address in Pitts Hill, Saxlingham Nethergate. There was no sign of entry having been gained.
24 June 2009
There have recently been incidents in the county of rogue traders touting for driveway work. We would advise householders not to give these individuals work of any sort. They have picked up the odd job here and there, mostly around Norwich. One householder was relieved that, after the work was carried out, the Police and Trading Standards turned up at the address; he cancelled the cheque that had been made out. These individuals are connected with some fairly nasty characters and as long as they are around Norfolk there is the potential for an upsurge in distraction burglaries and the targeting of the more vulnerable in the community. The less work they get the sooner we will be rid of them.
Please stay alert and ensure your members remain alert to the potential problems associated with giving these people work of any kind.
Thank you.

18 June 2009 - There have been instances recently, in a number of locations in South
Norfolk, where individuals have called at addresses offering fish for
sale. In one incident in Diss an elderly resident handed over £300 for
fish that was not what she had asked for and that appeared not to be of good quality. The fish is often offered at inflated prices.
A number of individuals have been involved, including a female. They have been described as having northern accents and one was said to be white, slim build with short spiky hair. He was about 5'7" tall and wore a blue shirt and light coloured jeans and drove a white van.
Norfolk Trading Standards ask that residents never agree to have work
done, or buy goods from, someone who calls unannounced or approaches them in the street.
Anyone experiencing problems with traders, or needing further advice, can call the National Consumer Helpline on 0845 404 506.
10 June 2009 - We have recently seen a slight increase in the number of incidents at
village halls involving burglary and damage. I appreciate that this
message will not be relevant to most of the co-ordinators. However, those
of you who do have village halls within your schemes I would be grateful
if you would make the caretakers, or those with responsibility for those
halls, aware of this and of the need to maintain good security and to
ensure that locks and relevant security devices are sound. If any village
hall caretaker or committee would like crime prevention advice then please
do not hesitate to contact me at Diss Police Station.
4 June 2009 - Between midnight on Tuesday 2 Jun and 0800 the next day an attempted
burglary took place at premises in Ipswich Road, Saxlingham Thorpe.
Having been unsuccessful in gaining entry to a shed an unlocked mountain
bike was stolen from outside.
13th November 2008 - Between 2300 on Tuesday 11 nov and 1000 the next day a burglary took place at an address in Ipswich Road, Saxlingham Thorpe. A shed was entered by forcing the wooden door and property stolen.
1st August 2008 - Between 0930 and 1930 on Wednesday 30 July, a burglary took place at an address in Greenways, Newton Flotman. The premises were entered through a ground floor window that had been jemmied open. A tidy search was made although nothing appears to have been stolen. Some items of property in the house were moved around.
26th July 2008 - About 1500 today, 21 Jul, a distraction burglary took place in Rectory Road, Dickleburgh. The victim saw a male person in her back garden and whilst speaking to him a second person is thought to have entered the house and stolen a quantity of cash.
The male who distracted the woman was described as being of sturdy build, with a Scottish accent, wearing a black bomber jacket, black trousers and wearing glasses.
Please pass on the message to your members always to check the identity of anyone cold calling at their home and always to ask for quotes and references before any work is carried out and please remember,
1. Always ask for identification from any unexpected callers and do not let anyone in if you are not comfortable with who they are.
2. Councils and utility companies will generally contact householdedrs by telephone or letter if they plan to carry out repairs rather than make unsolicited calls.
3. Please report anything suspicious, as soon as possible, to police on 0845 456 4567
15th May 2008 - This is a general warning concerning distraction burglaries and rogue traders.
Over the previous 24 hours there have been a number of distraction burglaries and associated attempts in South Norfolk. The story is a
familiar one with criminals posing, in the majority of cases, as water company officials. In one such incident the suspect threw water over an elderly resident who refused him entry. Rogue trader incidents logged have included offers to paint an elderly couple's house in Stoke Holy Cross to an Irish male, with another individual, asking questions about caravans for sale in the area having said he was there to fill in potholes in the road.
I sent out messages recently about rogue fish salesmen and an incident in Norwich with an alleged water company official. Please circulate your members with this timely reminder about the subject of distraction
burglaries. I would also ask that should you have any elderly or vulnerable individuals in your schemes, or as neighbours, you make the effort to reinforce the message to them. The Anglia Water telephone number to use to check the authenticity of water company officials is 0800 145 145. In the case of EDF the number is 0800 365 000
Whenever anyone calls at your address, not necessarily those saying they are from a utility company, always make sure your back door is locked before you go to the front door. In the case of alleged utility representatives ask to see their identity card, ask for their name and
identity number and take the card. Ask them to wait while you call the appropriate number to check. Always close the door when you do this. If your door has a chain, always use it.
8th May 2008 - We have been informed by Trading Standards that instances have occured,in a number of areas in Norfolk, involving a particular team of cold callers. These individuals are selling quantities of fish parcelled up into bags. On 7 May, in the Broadland area, they called on an elderly lady who parted with £1475 for 10 bags of fish. It goes without saying that it was not good quality and was of dubious origin. Those known to be involved at the moment are described as:
Male, white, 5'9", 50's, grey hair, wearing a white coat with dark clothing underneath.
Male, white, 6'4", heavy build, balding
Female, white, late 30's, 5'2", with fair/blonde hair.
Those who are approached to buy the fish are shown a sample of what they are told they will receive for their money. The first bag is good quality but subsequent bags are certainly not, nor are they worth the money. The only vehicle seen at present has been a white van. It should be noted that their selling techniques, originally a little forceful, are now bordering on the intimidating.
Should you be approached, or if you have any information concerning these people or any vehicle that is being used, please contact, as soon as possible, Norfolk Trading Standards on 0845 404 0506.
28th April 2008 - Between 2000 on 28 Apr and 0800 the next day, a shed at an address in Mill Road, Hempnall was burgled. The padlock was forced off and a 21" Honda rotary lawn mower was stolen.
21st April 2008 - Between 1445 on 17 Apr and 0605 the next day, a vehicle parked in St Mary's Close, Newton Flotman was damaged with a hammer.
Between 1730 on 17 Apr and 0700 the next morning, a vehicle parked inFlordon Road, Newton Flotman was damaged by having a plant pot thrown at it.
Between 0730 and 1530 on 18 Apr, a patio door at an address in Tasburgh Road, Saxlingham Thorpe was damaged.
Between 2330 on 19 Apr and 0755 the next day, the front door glass at a house in Old Street, Newton Flotman was broken.
5th April 2008 - Between 2100 on 27 Mar and 0900 the next day, a vehicle parked in West End, Saxlingham Thorpe was interfered with. An attempt was made to prise out the passenger door lock.
